If the Eagles are going to make this a special season and make a deep playoff run and live up to the hype, they need to find a way to beat the Cowboys. There is also a big, huge roadblock between the Eagles and their goals. There’s a reason expectations are so high around here. On paper, the Eagles team that opens the season Sunday in Detroit is vastly improved over the group that reached the playoffs at the end of last year, winning six of seven games. Although a win is a win, inter-conference victories are more valuable than interconference. And they’re starting on top thanks to a win over an NFC opponent while Washington and New York beat AFC teams. Their loss serves as a reminder that the divide is too much to take. That tiebreaker could be relevant if Dallas rebounds to move into a playoff position, which isn’t impossible given their very easy schedule.
